                       ROOTS SALON:

          PEACE, LOVE, & PRETTY HAIR

At 824 Lillian Avenue, right where Sherman Boulevard and Goshen Avenue intersect, sits the cutest hidden gem of Fort Wayne. The charming little building right next to the bait and tackle shop is home to Roots Salon. Roots offers a lot more than a great haircut, including works by local artists, handmade soaps,  homespun pottery, clothing, jewelry, and many more little treasures. Roots is an adorable and unexpected escape. Furnished with retro sofas, mod chairs, a daisy chandelier, an etch-a-sketch buffet, and a decoupage wall, the salon/gallery makes it hard to leave. Roots is owned and operated by two beautiful young ladies who not only make sure you walk out of their shop with a killer hair do, but also leave with a smile.

               Sunday’s Charity Event,

Home is Where the Music is

             Put the Fun in Fundraising

Sunday evening I hopped on my bike and headed over to Cs3 with my buddies to support a much longer, and more noble journey. My pal Andrea Rapp/Super women and her husband Micah held a fundraiser there for a very selfless adventure. They will be riding their bicycles across the country to benefit Bike & Build, a nonprofit dedicated to funding affordable housing projects through cross-country cycling trips…BICYCLES…ACROSS THE COUNTRY!

Though the fundraiser over the weekend felt more like a party than a stuffy charity event, that didn’t stop people from giving. They made over $3,000 that evening from their impressive silent auction and super raffle. They also had a long list of entertainment including Hope Arther, Lee Miles, The End Time Spasm Band, Rhapsody in Wax, and Slow Pokes. Some of the amazing prizes up for grabs on Sunday included personal training sessions, designer fragrances, $100 restaurant gift cards, $150 tattoo vouchers, $300 family portrait sessions, prints by local artists, furniture, a fully operational sewing machine/work of art, an OFabz high waisted swimsuit, and much more!

Our suit was one of the last items to be announced, because it was labeled a “big prize”, which made us quite proud. Andrea announced, “…And the winner of the OFabz Swimwear bikini is… Robert?!” He had put his ticket in to win the suit for a friend but still looked quite proud to be having is picture taken on stage… wearing an OFabz bikini top. Soon after winning he confessed to being a little worried about carrying the suit out to his car after getting the evil eye from some of the jealous female runner ups. The girls spared Robert from a parking lot sneak attack and everyone seemed to have a very pleasant evening.

Thanks to Andrea and Micah Rapp for being so giving and so fun!

If you would like to keep up with them on their adventure and/or donate, here is the place to go: http://www.oregonbound2012.com/

We Love The Like
In love with the 1960′s inspired girl group that is The Like!  Elizabeth “Z” Berg (vocals and guitar), Tennessee Thomson (drums), Laena Geronimo (bass), and Annie Monroe (organ) have not only managed to capture the sounds of yesteryear but they’ve got the look nailed too. Floral shift dresses, boldly striped blazers, and color blocking at its finest are among some of the looks in the band’s fashion repertoire.
The girls’ mix of pixie cuts, blunt bangs, bouffants, and black eyeliner take their look to a hauntingly accurate level of sixties coolness that we just can’t get enough of.
